Karma Kaanda - Introduction
As we study the roots of our sanaatanadharma, the next important aspect is knowing about vedas and vedaangas. In the previous section a brief introduction to samskruta language and vedas was given, in this section the structure of vedas as conceived by maharshi vedavyaasa, and further classification is discussed.
vedas are apaursheyas. Means not delivered by humans. These are also called shrutis. Means heard by rushis and delivered to their disciples/shishyas for onward propagation. To understand more vividly first generation rushis have created and written these vedaangas and these are also called smrutis. Meaning by they are remembered and written by human. The authority/pramaanam for these smrutis/vedaangas is again shrutis/ vedas only. vedaangas include the shikshaa, vyaakarana, chandas, nirukta, jyotisha and kalpa.
