AYURVEDA

ORIGIN OF AYURVEDA:

We have four Vedas viz. Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda.

Ayurveda is considered as the UpaVeda of Atharva Veda. It is an integral part of Atharva Veda.It is approximately 5000 years old.

  • “Ayurveda is Anadi and Anantha”

Ayurveda has neither beginning nor end

  • “Dharmo Rakshathi Rakshathah”

If we protect Dharma, then Dharma protects us. All the four Vedasare widely accepted by the Hindu people and we have been studying, observing and practicing them since ages.

MEANING OF AYURVEDA:

  • “Ayushyo Vedah Ayurvedah”

The Ayurveda is the Veda which tells us the true knowledge of life science. It speaks about the Life style, Spiritual power, Physical power and Mental abilities of life of an individual.

DEFINITION OF AYURVEDA:

  • “Sukha Samyak Arogyam Vikarou Dukhamenasah”

If one is healthy, that is the real happiness. The mind, soul, intellect and body are in tranquility. If anything is disturbed or missing, it leads to dis-ease or discomfort.

  • “Health is wealth”

It is an old saying, in olden days, the wealth is measured in terms of happiness which we get it by being healthy.

AYURVEDA IN OLDEN DAYS:

There were days when a child is born in a house, people used to feel happy and the health condition of both the mother and child used to be very good.  Similarly, when a person dies, it is understood that the person is in the fag end of his life and death is inevitable and certain.“Jathasya MaranamDhruvam”.This was prevailed because of the healthy life style which people used to maintain with the ancient traditional treatments of Ayurveda.

POPULARITY OF AYURVEDA IN INDIA AND ACROSS GLOBE:

The Ayurveda is the most dominant and one of the oldest traditional systems amongst the other Indian systems of medicines, The other allied systems are Siddha, Unani, Homeopathy, Naturopathy and Yoga. It is accepted worldwide and can also find its prevalence globally since ages.

MISCONCEPTION BY SOME CRITICS:

Some people misconstrued and misunderstood that, usage of ghee in ourdaily life leads to cholesterol, obesity, fatigue, blockages etc.It is a myth only. The life style of most of the younger generation is such, they do not find time for cooking, praying, exercise etc, and prefer to eat outside/road side food. They are getting easily accustomed to unhealthy habits and fast culture where only earning money is the prime responsibility. Thus, they are falling prey equally fast to the diseases like diabetes, cancers, thyroid, BP etc. Researchers say that, we are at the fourth place in the world consuming anti biotics directly or indirectly.

WHAT IS HEALTH:

  • “SATHAYUSHYAM”

We have the clear concept of living hundred years. By following the traditions and the rituals explained by our fore fathers, one can live a wonderful happy and healthy life.

There is a saying, “Life Is AllAboutEating Healthy and Living Healthy”.

Our healthy foodhabits and life style reflects on our health directly and we enjoy life being healthy. In any given financial situation, every person shall consume certain quantity of ghee every day.  Consumption of ghee enhances the Dhee, Dhrithi, Smrithi of a person.

Dhee means intelligence.

Dhrithi means determination of self-control [Indrias], Patience.

Smrithi means recalling the past experience and capacity of retention of memory.

Mind is an important and inevitable component in gaining knowledge.

and in a long run gives main three benefits out of hundreds of benefits. They are

A lady who consumes ghee of 10ml for the first 10-15 years of her life till she attains her menarche, is not going to suffer the post-menopausal blues after 45 years. This is the scientific study

A person, male or female who consume 10ml of ghee for a span of 10 years will not enter into the hold of Arthritis.

A person who consumes 10ml of ghee per day i.e. 3.3ml at breakfast, 3.3ml at lunch, 3.3ml at dinner enhances his/her Dhee, Dhrithi and Smrithi to multifolds.

PURPOSE OF AYURVEDA:

  • “Hitahitam Sukham Dukham Ayuhuthasya Hitahitam

Manamcha Tathra Yathproktham Ayurvedam Souchyathe”

Hita and Ahita, Sukha and Dukha – dualities like good and bad, happy and sorrow

Ayuhuthasya Hitahitam -that which takes care of healthy part of the individual

Manancha Tatra Yathproktham – that which defines the parameters of normalcy

Ayurvedam Souchyathe -That is Ayurveda.

To succeed in life, a person shall have a Guru. One shall have a target [Guri] and a Preceptor [Guru]. When the target and preceptor blende together in a very synchronized way that is the real art and part of healthy living. As already told, Ayurveda is Anadi and Anantha which dates 5000 years ago. The then Ayurveda is most relevant, most scientific, most successful and most reliable and prevalent to the present day’s health care scenario as well.

In India, we have seen Yogis eating one time, Bhogis eating multiple times. We have seen the quality of life a Yogi has been living prevalently and we have seen a Bhogi dying at an early age because of multiple disorders he gets through unhealthy way of living.

THE NECESSITY OF TRIO ELEMENTS:

Diabetes once called a rich man’s disease. Those who are lazy, lethargic, no work, not at all imbibed into physical activities, they used to get diabetes. Such was their life style. But now a days, because of this ultra-modern life style, young people are getting inflicted with many diseases like BP, Diabetes, Thyroid etc.  Hence, we have to introspect ourselves and have inner vision as whatbest has to be imbibed in our life style to stay healthy, behave healthy, think healthy. This is not only for one generation, it has to be transferred to many more generations in future.

So, the necessity of the main Trio elements arises. They are, Ahara,Vihara, and Vicharawhen these three elements are in equilibrium, necessity or requirement of medicine would not arise. To maintain these three elements, everyone has to follow strictly the ancient model of living. It helps in attaining knowledge, peace, and tranquility.

Another saying is pertinent to mention here

  • “Live Healthy, Leave Healthy”.

This is what everybody shall understand and make their journey of life happy and healthy.

VEDA PURUSHAS OF AYURVEDA:

  • “Purohitha”

All the Purushas related to Vedas i.e. Veda Purushas and Purohits are not just connected or defined to perform pujas to Gods or offer rituals of that particular area.

It is well said that, the word Purohita defines who takes care of Hita of that particular Pura.

Hita means goodness, Pura means Area or Village

He who is the real well wisher of that particular village or area or his surroundings

Mother, Guide, Doctor, and Teacher are the real Purohitas, because they take care of the local Pura.

The Indian Sun is so favorable to us that its ultra violet rays have got the magical power of healing that it has never paid to skin diseases/skin cancers.

ANCIENT TRADITIONAL KITCHEN OF INDIA:

The Indian Kitchen is considered as the biggest pharmacy in the entire world. The ingredients used in the Indian kitchen aremost authenticated and are being utilizing since centuries. Using of Jeera, Ginger, Herbs, Micro Masalas, Garlic etc. in our daily diet keeping us healthy since many years. These are the integral part of our immune building system. We can take as the proof that, during COVID, we all know how painful and fearfulwas the situation when lakhs of people lost their lives all over the globe, their sufferings of physical, mental and emotional. We have witnessed least number of deaths, pains, sufferings etc. in India. This was possible due to the life style and food habits that we maintained in India and followed the ancient and traditional practices which were prevailing since the birth of Vedas. So, we are into Ayurveda since ages. Thus, it is the integral part of our healthy life style.

SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF AYURVEDA:

  • “Sama Dosha Samagnischa Sama Dhatu Malakriyaah

Prasanna Atma Indriya Manaah Swasthvaithyabhidhiyathe”

This is the scientific and simple parameter of explaining Ayurveda to a commoner who is in quested into Ayurveda learning.

Sama doshas – The tranquility of Kapha, Vatha and doshas

Sama dhatu – Saptha dhatus – Rasa, Raktha, Mamsa, Medha, Asthi, Madhya, Sukra in its

equilibrium for a long period of time

Sama Mala   – Trimala -sweda [sweat], mootra [urine] and purisha [stools] in equal quantities regularly being exonerated from the body periodically

Sama Agni – Panchabhootagnis  Dhatwagnis which is in normalcy from within.

All the doshas, saptha dhatus, pancha agnis are to maintained normalcy to get the healthiness of Prasanna [happy] atma,  indriya[sense organs], and manah[mind]

OLD IS GOLD [ANCIENT PRACTICE OF FASTING]:

  • “Laagavakaram Lankhanam

Lankhanam Parama Oushadham”

Lankhanam means not eating

Parama Oushadham means medicine of highest value.

One who eats very less or does not eat is called Lankhanam. It is considered as the most effective remedy for curing inner diseases.

The definition of Upavasa is

  • “Upavasathi Ithi Upavasa”

No eating pattern is well designed as that of Indian when compared to other parts of the globe.

We follow or observe Ekadasi, Dwadasi which takes us more closure towards the Atma, which cleanses the body periodically from within and which makes our body lighter. The body prepares its own medicine to cure the discomforts by observing Upavasa periodically.

  • “Pratyahaara”

This is another statement in Ayurveda is

Prati means – To be Away

Aahara means – The food we take physically and mentally trough thoughts

To gain spiritual power and be healthy for a longer period, our ancients used very simple principle of Fasting. Thus, Fasting is the ultimate and Supreme Medicine.

PROCEDURE OF OBSERVING FASTING:

Our fore fathers were so scientifical and statistical that they used to predict future with great precision. They used to tell the exact time of Grahanas in each country, each state and gave us lot of information regarding our tradition and culture. There was profound quantity of science in India. Every 11th day of each month,Ekadasi falls, i.e. after 10 days, Ekadasi thithi comes. There is a logic behind every saying in olden days.

  • “Fasting is the supreme medicine”.

Fasting helps in detoxing the body, regenerate stem cells and helps in immunity building system. On observing fasting, whole of metabolism i.e. Ingestion, Assimilation, Digestion and Elimination would be in perfect cascade, perfect cycle periodically. After taking bath and puja to the family Deity, shall break the Fast on the next day i.e. 12th day of the month Dwadasi. Time will be there in Panchangam/Calendars to eat the regular food in the morning. Some people observe Nirjala Eladasi where even water is not supposed to be taken for the whole day. Rest of the procedure is same as that of normal Ekadasi.

CONCLUSION:

As the science of Ayurveda is Anadi and Anantha, it is most important for every person to understand and transfer the right and true knowledge of being healthy Spiritually, Physically and mentally.  It is the time to change the pseudo modernize life style and act as a bridge between Ayurveda and modern science. We need to be Technologically Scientific, Therapeutically Traditional. We shall be able to convince the society to how and why the relevance of Ayurveda is prevalent to the present generation as well. This is the pure treasure of what has to be given to the next generation. It is not the money or lands or jewelry but it is the “SAMSKARA”,SAMSKRUTHI” and “SABHYATHA”. If these three “S”s are transmitted to the next generation properly, then “HEALTH”follows by itself.
